When Mary Fae Smith was ten-years-old stared in sher first major theatrical production—James and the Giant Peach. She was the Ladybug. It was that performance that sealed her fate and set her soul’s determination of becoming a professional actress. That production was her catalyst. From then on, she began to plan out her life as an actress!

As a high school student, she spent two summer’s studying acting at the Donna Reed Festival for young actors. When she graduated from high school, she moved to California to attend college at Chapman University majoring in theatre performance. But, college made her extremely antsy about wasting 4 years to begin her career. So, she crammed a BFA into 2 years and spent her summer vacations doing community theatre in Orange County, CA and her final year of college starring in her first feature film—Happy Holidays. Happy Holidays was written and directed by another driven individual who eventually became her best friend.
Upon completing college, Mary wasted no time moving to LA and getting herself “out there” into the world or auditions, networking and building her career. Working on as many productions as she could—from commercials to web-serios to indie films to, yes, even background work (even, though she doesn’t always admitting that). Recently Mary achieved her goal of becoming eligible to join the Screen Actor’s Guild and has several goals for the rest of 2010. One is to book a national commercial. Another is to book at least one guest star role for television. Her big fat ultimate goal is to get a role on Mad Men.

Currently, she is focusing on the role she will be playing in the upcoming film True Perfection written and directed by the same writer and director of Happy Holidays—S. Mohen. She is excited about this upcoming project and role and ready for the challenge of a new complex and dynamic character!

Artist of the Week - 8/16/10

Actor: Robert Walters

Robert moved to Tinseltown (they still call it that, right?) about a year ago to live the dream of acting and also to fight crime. For true. He graduated from Chapman University’s Theatre Program with a BA in Theatrical Performance and during his time there had the pleasure of working on Ms. Mohen’s feature directorial debut (and also his theatrical feature debut! Fun Fact!!) “Happy Holidays”, which received critical acclaim and can be purchased/rented via the indie version of Netflix. Yes, there is such a thing. He has also starred in the pilot episode of CBS’ Cold Case as well as a nationally running Pizza Hut commercial. He’s also made numerous LA stage appearances, including the World premiere of the original play “Sacrifice” and The Weed Show - Love Letters to Mary Jane, currently running at the Mackenzie Theatre. Robert is seriously excited to get this film going and unleash his inner fashionista. He can also walk through walls.

Artist of the Week - 8/9/10

Actress: Aleah Whaley

Aleah is a recent graduate of Chapman University, where she earned a BA in Theatre. While at Chapman Aleah worked both behind the scenes and as an actor for numerous films with Dodge College.

Aleah currently entertains guests and fellow employees alike at Universal Studios Hollywood as a Studio Tour Guide. She also works as a bubble show performer; going to birthday parties and school assemblies to not only teach children about the science of bubbles, but put them inside a bubble as well! Both jobs allow for great fun and discipline in patience and improvisational skills.

While striving towards her goal of being a working actor, Aleah is excited to work on “True Perfection” as 1^st AD and cannot wait to share this fantastic project with others.

Artist of the week - 7/ 13/10

Actor: Will Barker

Will Barker first discovered his love for the theatrical arts in the mountains of North Carolina and eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2006. He attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated May of 2008. Since then he has participated in several Studio as well as Independent projects including S. Mohen’s Eve is Dead and of course True Perfection. Aside from TV and Film, he has also enjoyed furthering his career on the stage with productions including the The Columbine Project Off-Broadway, the west coast premiere of Charles Evered’s Celadine at The Colony Theatre, as well as participating in The Blank Theatre Company’s Young Playwright’s Festival. In this he brought to life the physical embodiment
of “The Breeze” in May Treuhaft-Ali’s show titled MAY. A timeless “Breeze” who has his
heart broken by a young girl named “Honey”, played by Glee’s Heather Morris, but ultimately concludes with a beautiful bittersweet ending. The talented trio of a cast also included Twilight’s brilliant Michael Welch. Will also trains in stunt swordplay and stage combat. Currently he has a couple projects of his own in the making and is excited to play “James LeFroy” in Sarah’s True Perfection. Along with the career in acting, Will is on staff with The Thirst Project, a charity working to bring clean drinking water to underdeveloped countries one well at a time. He strives to leave this world with hope through love and art and thanks God every day for this life.

Artist of the Week - 7/5/10

Production Designer: Jillian Lynes

Jillian grew up in sunny So Cal, only leaving for a couple of blissful years to live and go to school on the island of Oahu. She later transferred to Chapman University’s school of film and media arts, where she majored in Film Production with an emphasis in Production Design, and minored in Public Relations. Over the years, internships have taken her into the viral marketing world (hanging out with Tom and friends at MySpace for a couple semesters) to the distribution side of film, working with World Wide Motion Pictures. Student film sets and occasional music video sets kept her on the path of production design, wardrobe, and set dressing. Currently, she resides in West LA and works full time in Santa Monica for New Hat, a boutique post-production facility that specializes in telecine and coloring. She still likes to help in design and art direction in her spare time, and is entirely thrilled to be a part of “True Perfection!”

Artist of the Week - 6/21/10

Actress: Kate Arney-Cimino

Kate moved to la from Boulder, Co and has lived here for a little over a year now. She has a double degree in business and Spanish from Muhlenberg College and has left the corporate world of banking and insurance and come to la to be in charge of her own schedule and never again sit at a desk. Since moving to la, she’s joined the unions and has worked on several projects including the feature film Perfect Combination, a Botox commercial, and a promo for the Encore channel. Kate loves the character of Julie in “True Perfection.”and believes that blonds are just misunderstood for seeing the world a little differently. Julie is not that dumb, she just still believes in Santa Clause and that the moon is most likely cheese, no biggie.

Artist of the Week - 6/14/10

Filmmaker: Matthew Stubstad

Matthew was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and before he turned one his family moved to warmer weather in Southern California. They would settle in Encinitas, California, a peaceful and creative surf-town that would become a place of inspiration for him. Still to this day Matthew returns to Encinitas to film projects and find vision.
He began making films at the age of nine; when he took his mothers VHS camcorder and began to make stop-animation shorts with his toys. This interest in creating films only grew. In high-school Matthew created his first company, Stubby Productions and made surf documentaries of his friends. Self-teaching himself proper cinematography and editing. He began to work for local production companies and independently made music videos for local bands. In 2007 Matthew decided to take his filmmaking seriously and moved to Los Angeles to attend The USC School of Cinematic Arts.
Now living in Hollywood, Matthew is a working director and producer. Creating content spreading from comedy sketches with the group Half Day Today! (www.HalfDayToday.com) to feature films, music videos, shorts and web-series. Matthew enjoys diversity in his work, for him it keeps things fresh and exciting. He plans on exploring this world of cinema, expanding his company Stubstad Films as well as the other companies he has become a part of.
